I designed this classical-style Odysseus statue to bring the epic scale of Greek mythology right to your desk, bookshelf, or personal library. He is depicted as the weary but unbreakable traveler, wrapped in his heavy cloak and standing in a traditional, commanding pose.
Whether you’re a lover of ancient literature, a history enthusiast, or just want a daily reminder of perseverance, I made this statue to be a timeless, striking companion for your space.
My Take on Odysseus & His Symbols
To me, Odysseus represents the ultimate story of endurance. He isn’t just a warrior; he’s a survivor who relies on his intellect and sheer willpower to get back home. I wanted this piece to honor that weary but unyielding energy.
I made sure to include his heavy, weather-worn cloak and his pileus (a traditional ancient traveler’s cap). He stands resting next to a thick staff, which represents his long wanderings, the trials he overcame, and his ultimate return to Ithaca. Bringing these classical elements together in a traditional sculpture is my way of capturing the weight of the hero’s journey.
How I Make Them:
I 3D print each of these statues right in my workspace using PLA, which is a tough, plant-based bioplastic (derived from cornstarch). Because of how the 3D printing process works layer-by-layer, each statue has a very subtle, unique surface texture—no two are exactly alike. Thus, very faint lines may appear on your statue. The staff requires assembly for structural stability. I meticulously glue, sand, and color-match these joints. While I work hard to make them invisible, slight seams may occasionally be present upon close inspection.
Care Instructions:
Keep him indoors: PLA plastic can warp if it gets hotter than 120°F (50°C), so please don’t leave him out in the hot summer sun or in a hot car.
Cleaning: Just dust him gently with a soft brush or microfiber cloth. If he needs a wipe down, use a barely damp cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners.
I hope this piece brings as much resilient energy to your space as I felt while designing him. He’s for anyone who appreciates classical history and the epic journey of getting back home!
A Quick Note on Inspiration:
To be perfectly clear, this design is inspired strictly by the ancient Greek epic poem The Odyssey by Homer, and the historical mythos of the King of Ithaca. It is not based on, nor affiliated with, any modern The Odyssey movie or television adaptations. Odysseus is a foundational mythological figure, and I wanted to honor his classical origins with the respectful, traditional depiction that this historical character deserves. Both the character and the poem are WELL within the public domain.. for thousands of years.
